ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS


DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

The Department of Public Works is responsible for the County's public facilities, its roads, and solid waste management services.

The Department operates through three divisions: Maintenance, Roads, and Waste Management.

MAINTENANCE DIVISION
The Maintenance Division manages and constructs capital projects (County Code, secs. 214-1 through 214-49).

ROADS DIVISION
The Roads Division constructs and maintains County roads, bridges, and related structures, and is responsible for traffic safety.

WASTE MANAGEMENT DIVISION
The Environmental Services Division oversees solid waste, including landfills and recycling (County Code, secs. 109-1 through 109-24).


DEPARTMENT OF WATER & WASTEWATER SERVICES

The Department of Water and Wastewater Services manages water and wastewater treatment plants, and is responsible for stormwater management and sediment control.
